Removals Denmark Health and Safety Policy
Removals Denmark is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for our employees, contractors, customers, and members of the public who may be affected by our activities. This Health and Safety Policy sets out the principles and practices that guide our work across all removal, packing, handling, storage, and transport services.
Our aim is to prevent accidents, injuries, and work-related ill health by identifying and managing risks associated with removals and related services. We will continuously improve our health and safety performance and promote a strong safety culture throughout the organisation.
Management Responsibilities and Leadership
Senior management at Removals Denmark has overall responsibility for health and safety. We ensure that appropriate resources, training, and supervision are provided so that work can be carried out safely and in line with relevant health and safety requirements.
Managers are responsible for:
Providing clear instructions, information, and training to employees so they can work safely and competently.
Carrying out and reviewing risk assessments for removal, packing, loading, unloading, and driving activities.
Ensuring that vehicles, equipment, and premises are maintained in a safe condition.
Encouraging employee consultation and participation on health and safety matters.
Investigating accidents, incidents, and near misses and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Employee Responsibilities
All employees, including temporary and agency workers, share responsibility for maintaining a safe working environment. Every member of staff is expected to:
Take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others affected by their actions.
Follow the training, procedures, and safe systems of work provided by Removals Denmark.
Use vehicles, tools, personal protective equipment, and other equipment correctly and report any defects immediately.
Report accidents, incidents, near misses, and any health and safety concerns to their supervisor without delay.
Cooperate fully with managers and supervisors to enable the company to fulfil its health and safety obligations.
Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work
Removals Denmark carries out risk assessments for all significant hazards associated with our activities, including lifting and carrying, vehicle movements, access to properties, working at height when required, and handling fragile or heavy items.
Based on these assessments, we establish safe systems of work to control risks. This includes planning each removal or delivery in advance, assessing site access, stairways, lifts, and any potential obstructions, and identifying when additional equipment or personnel are required.
Site-specific risks are reviewed on arrival, and work plans may be adjusted to ensure that any unexpected hazards are managed safely.
Manual Handling and Use of Equipment
Manual handling is a core part of removal work, and Removals Denmark places strong emphasis on safe lifting and carrying practices. We will:
Provide training in correct manual handling techniques to all staff involved in lifting and moving items.
Use mechanical aids, such as trolleys and lifting devices, wherever reasonably practicable to reduce manual handling risks.
Plan the movement of large or heavy items to minimise the risk of strain, slips, trips, and falls.
Ensure that all tools, lifting equipment, and protective gear are suitable for the task and regularly inspected and maintained.
Vehicle Safety and Driving Standards
Our vehicles are essential to our service and are operated in a manner that prioritises safety for drivers, passengers, customers, and the public. Removals Denmark will:
Maintain all vehicles in a roadworthy condition, with regular checks, servicing, and inspection.
Ensure drivers are competent, properly licensed, and trained in safe driving techniques and load securing.
Plan routes to allow sufficient time for safe travel and to reduce stress and fatigue.
Secure loads correctly to prevent movement during transit and reduce the risk of injury or damage.
Promote responsible driving behaviour that complies with speed limits, traffic regulations, and parking rules.
Customer Premises and Public Safety
Our teams often work in homes, offices, and public spaces. We take care to protect customers, visitors, and passers-by from risks arising from our operations. This includes:
Assessing access routes, stairs, corridors, and doorways for hazards before moving items.
Using warning signs or verbal instructions where necessary to keep areas clear while items are being moved.
Minimising obstruction of pavements, entrances, and communal areas and removing packing materials promptly.
Taking reasonable steps to prevent damage to property, fixtures, and fittings while carrying out removal activities.
Training, Information, and Supervision
Removals Denmark recognises that effective training and supervision are essential to good health and safety performance. We will:
Provide induction training for all new employees, covering core safety procedures and expectations.
Deliver ongoing training in manual handling, equipment use, driving safety, and emergency procedures as relevant to each role.
Ensure that less experienced staff are supervised by competent and experienced colleagues.
Keep records of training and review needs regularly to maintain and improve skills.
Accident Reporting and Emergency Procedures
All accidents, incidents, and near misses must be reported so they can be investigated and lessons can be learned. Removals Denmark will:
Maintain clear procedures for reporting and recording accidents and incidents.
Respond promptly to injuries or emergencies, including arranging medical assistance where needed.
Investigate the causes of incidents and implement corrective actions and improvements.
Communicate relevant findings to staff to prevent similar events in the future.
Continuous Improvement and Policy Review
Removals Denmark is committed to continuous improvement in health and safety performance. We monitor our activities, review risk assessments, and update procedures in light of operational experience, feedback from employees and customers, and changes in working practices.
This Health and Safety Policy is reviewed regularly to ensure it remains suitable, effective, and aligned with our commitment to the wellbeing of everyone involved in or affected by our services.
